How to play Yukon solitaire
Yukon looks like Klondike, but there’s no deck to draw from, and you can move any face-up card along with everything on top of it, even if those cards aren’t in order.
The layout
- Seven columns. The first has a single card. The others have 1 to 6 face-down cards with five face-up cards on top: all 52 cards are dealt.
- Four foundations (top right), one for each suit.
The rules
- In the columns, build down in alternating colors: a red 8 goes on a black 9.
- You may move any face-up card together with all the cards on top of it, as long as that card itself fits where it lands.
- When you uncover a face-down card, it turns face up.
- Only a King (with anything on top of it) can go into an empty column.
- Build each foundation up by suit from Ace to King. When all four are complete, you win.
How to play here
- Tap any face-up card, even one near the top of a column, and it moves with everything on top of it.
- The game picks the best place automatically. To choose yourself, pick “Let me pick where” in the Menu.
- Undo as often as you like, and tap Hint when you’re stuck.
Tips
- Your first goal is to turn over the face-down cards, starting with the longest columns.
- Because groups don’t need to be in order, you can dig out a buried card by moving the cards above it as a block.
- Save empty columns for Kings that are blocking face-down cards.
Questions
How is Yukon different from Klondike?
There is no deck: all the cards are dealt at the start, and you can move a face-up card with all the cards on top of it even when they’re not in sequence.
Can every deal be won?
Not every random deal. By default, the computer checks each new deal and only gives you one it has found a way to win, and the Hint button suggests a winning next step. You can switch to fully random deals in the Menu.
